Video Game Players Turn Their PCs Into Home Theaters

September 1, 2004 -- You have a great gaming PC with a fast video card and maybe even surround sound audio. You may even already have your PC connected to a TV or large-screen display for the ultimate in gaming enjoyment. Gaming Nexus writer John Yan recently took a look at the popular Home Theater PC (HTPC) software Meedio Essentials which can turn almost any PC into a digital home theater. "Meedio Essentials lets you manage all your multimedia applications with a user friendly interface. Well, you aren’t limited to multimedia applications but that’s what makes Meedio Essentials so powerful." writes Yan. In fact, not only can Meedio Essentials turn your gaming PC into a digital media center, it can also create an interactive graphical frontend to the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) for categorizing, browsing, and launching games with a joystick, gamepad, or remote control.

Meedio's website at http://www.meedio.com includes dozens of other plug-in applications for the Meedio Essentials platform. "What makes Meedio Essentials such a popular front end is the fact that there’s a great supportive community and user-made plugins that help extend the functionality of the program." continues Yan.

In addition to plugin applications, Meedio Essentials also supports customizable themes. Yan explains "Various themes are available for Meedio Essentials and if there’s one that doesn’t fit your needs, you can create one yourself. There’s a theme designer available so anyone can create their own unique look. Switching themes hosted on the program’s website is very simple, however, as the program lets you browse through the ones available and you can switch between them with a click of a button. There’s some really nicely done themes already available and even one that mimics Microsoft’s Media Edition."
